"...she had a highly cultivated affinity with the genre of Lieder. Whether she is portraying Mussorgsky's whining child, a lover or a folk-singer, her intelligence as a performer always comes through. She sang some charmingly dignified songs by her ancestor Mathilde, which had a Mendelssohnian purity flavoured with some very subtle shifts of harmony."

"Une voix de texture riche et des nuances infinie." NICE-MATIN

"The Tokyo recital was a real treat for music buffs. Starting with Auf Flügeln des Gesanges written by Mendelssohn in 1836, the performance included songs from the musical autograph book by Barber, Chopin, Liszt, and Rossini. Charlotte's soaring voice rendered each piece beautifully. Family Connections was a unique and inspiring occasion which gave music enthusiasts new insights into one of the world's most historic families."

"An imaginatively varied programme in the recital by soprano Charlotte de Rothschild at the Purcell Room was distinguished by linguistic as well as vocal virtuosity."

"Sing Some Songs of Rothschild"...as with many of the affluent and influential families of the nineteenth century the Rothschilds were great champions of the arts - most especially music. The roll call of composers who graced the family dining rooms or salons in London, Paris, and Vienna included such titans as Chopin, Liszt, Mendelssohn and Rossini, most of whom either taught the family's most gifted amateur musicians or dedicated works to them...a programme that spans the romantic era...it proved a delightful excursion into one of music's byways."

"Flower Songs at Kew Gardens, a recital given by the soprano Charlotte de Rothschild, was an adept piece of programming. Miss de Rothschild possesses a beautifully refined tone and the gift of graceful characterisation. The programme featured an imaginative selection of songs for the seasons representing many different styles and eras."
THE JEWISH CHRONICLE

"I have heard Charlotte de Rothschild sing some of the songs she intends to include in her programme "Family Connections" to be given in London, Paris, Naples, Frankfurt and Vienna. The concept is most imaginative, and her intelligent musicianship should give audiences much pleasure."

"I have admired the artistry and vocal talents of Charlotte de Rothschild since she came to the Royal College of Music as a post-graduate...and am especially pleased that her C.D. includes songs by Mathilde de Rothschild, whose compositions deserve to be more widely known. The delightful songs on this disc are beautifully constructed and immediately attractive. Each song reflects the mood of the words with telling effect, and Charlotte de Rothschild instinctively responds to the subtle demands of the songs with well-judged rubato."
SIR DAVID WILLCOCKS, C.B.E., M.C.

"Charlotte de Rothschild has devoted much time in the way of special preparation and her admirable artistry enabled her to convey the depths of feeling below the surface of much of this fascinating repertoire. There were 22 songs in all and it would be difficult to select the finest, for they were all of a similar level of artistic merit, yet those by Ikuma Dan, Kohsaku Yamada and Tadanori Ohno, as well as the final more modern group, were uncommonly interesting. A very worthwhile and unusually successful evening."
MUSICAL OPINION MAGAZINE

"Charlotte de Rothschild is an English soprano who wants to promote the beauty of Japanese songs to the world. I have heard her singing on a number of occasions and each time I was impressed by the clearness of her sensitivity to the words and her accuracy in grasping the meaning of the songs. This time she sang with even more richness of tone and her voice control, based on good singing technique was excellent. The voice seems to have an underlying strength showing to even better effect the expressed feelings and scenery. Songs which are often performed by the Japanese, such as Karatachi no hana and Hamabe no uta, gained a new shine."
